Lauren Honig is an assistant professor of political science at Boston College whose work addresses questions of property rights, the roles of informal and customary institutions, natural resource politics, and state-citizen linkages. Lauren talks to Kim this week about her new book, Land Politics: How Customary Institutions Shape State Building in Zambia and Senegal.
Plus, in the news wrap, Kim and Rachel talk about the World Cup, updates on alleged corruption in Malawi, a potential impeachment hearing for South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, and more!
We also extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of professor Owen Kalinga, a historian at North Carolina State University and author of among many other publications, the Historical Dictionary of Malawi. He was a generous senior scholar who had a unique lens on recording and interpreting Malawi’s history.
